The Sr. High youth would like to thank the congregation for their support and encouragement of National Sr. High Sunday on May 3rd. The youth did a wonderful job organizing and leading the worship services.

The Sr. High youth are looking forward to a long night of games and movies at our Lock-in, which will be at the end of the month of May.

Both the Jr. and Sr. High youth will be working at Green Tree’s annual Community Yard Sale on June 6th. The youth will be manning the youth’s sale table as well as the food table. The money that is raised at the sale will go towards the youth’s summer work camps.

We are also looking forward to our summer work camps! The Sr. High youth will be going to Crozet, Virginia from July 5th – 11th to volunteer at Innisfree Village, a residential community that houses adults with intellectual disabilities. The Jr. High will be going to Roanoke, Virginia from August 5th – 9th to volunteer with the Roanoke Rescue Mission, Samaritan Inn, and Ram House.

At the beginning of April, the Jr. and Sr. High youth prepared for and organized Green Tree’s annual Easter Egg Hunt, which was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who donated hard boiled eggs! The Jr. High youth enjoyed an all-nighter this month at the District Jr. High Lock in at Lebanon Valley College.

At the end of April, some of the youth will be joining a number of members of our congregation at Camp Swatara for Green Tree’s fellowship and service weekend. While we are there, there will be a District Adventure Day for the Sr. High, in which we will have the opportunity to hike, climb the climbing tower, and work our way through the high ropes course with other youth in our district.

The Sr. High would also like to invite the congregation to come support us on Sunday, May 3rd for National Youth Sunday. On this particular Sunday, the Sr. High will be organizing and leading the worship services.

The Sr. High youth just returned from District Winter Retreat at Camp Swatara. Four youth and two advisors enjoyed a weekend of fellowshipping with other Brethren youth from around the district as well as enjoying activities such as four square, dodge ball and Dutch blitz. We also enjoyed hearing our speaker for the weekend, Josh Brockway, who is the Director of Spiritual Life and Discipleship for the Church of the Brethren.

The Jr. High youth look forward to acting as worship leaders on Sunday, January 25th, for National Jr. High Sunday. Both groups are also looking forward to the District service project, where we will be helping to pack school, relief, and hygiene kits at the Material Resources Center in Ephrata.

Summer is upon us, which means school is over and summer trips have begun. On top of family vacations and weeks spent at Camp Swatara, the Jr. High and Sr. High youth groups are preparing for their own trips this summer as well. Two Jr. High youth and two advisors will be going to Columbus, Ohio from July 6th – 10th to work with a program called “Experience Columbus” where they will get a hands-on interactive tour of inner city poverty as well as working with a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store and a local food bank.

Five Sr. High youth and two advisors will be going to Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado for National Youth Conference from July 19th – 24th. This conference is held every four years, and around 3,000 high school youth come from all over the United States to worship together, attend small groups and workshops, participate in service projects, and enjoy hiking and concerts, and much more. Our group is so excited to be attending this conference, and can’t wait to come back and tell our congregation all about it.

We’d like to thank the Green Tree congregation for its support in our recent Community Yard Sale fundraiser, and all of our fundraisers that allow us to take trips like these every year.

In the month of April, the Jr. High and Sr. High youth took part in a few combined activities. The first was a district service project with GAIN (Global Aid Network) on April 12th. There, three youth and three advisors spent the morning sorting and folding clothing donations to be sent to needy neighborhoods.
Over Easter weekend, the Jr. and Sr. High youth prepared for and hosted the Easter Egg Hunt at the church. On Friday night, the youth spent the evening dyeing eggs, making paper baskets, and chocolate candy for the hunt. On Saturday morning, the youth came early to hide the eggs around the church grounds, and then led the different age groups in their egg hunt.
The Jr. High youth are looking forward to going miniature golfing later this month, and the Sr. High will enjoy an afternoon of laser tag. Both groups are also looking forward to our summer activities, like the Community Yard Sale, which will be on June 7th, and work camp for the Jr. High, as well as National Youth Conference for the Sr. High.
