Special Music with Kathy Bestwick and Friends

Posted by andrew on July 27, 2015

A group of musicians meet at the Spring Hollow golf course in Spring City on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings to play Old Time and Bluegrass music. I contacted the organizer when I first started playing the bass to see if I could join them. Those first few months were my first experiences in playing with other people and “picking up” the tunes.  The group was so welcoming and put me at ease. Although I can’t recall exactly when I started meeting up at the jams, I think it has been for over a year at this point.

As time went on I started becoming familiar with their selection of tunes and we decided to put together a group of Old Time Gospel songs that we could perform in church. We have prepared a selection of music and invite everyone to attend the service on Sunday August 9th at 10:45. We will be playing throughout the service and the congregation will be invited to sing along with “I Shall Not Be Moved”.  Our other selections include: “I’ll Have a Heart That Will Never Break Again”, “Help Is On The Way”, “Come Morning”, and “What Will I Leave Behind”.

Our band includes:  Charlie Fern on guitar and lead vocals, Vicky Brien on the Claw Hammer Banjo and tenor vocals, Bill Schaeffer on the Mandolin and bass vocals and Kathy Bestwick on the Upright Bass and Alto vocals.  In addition to Green Tree, we will also be playing at the Bethel Methodist Church in Spring City (Aug 2nd) and the Church of the Nazarene in Emmaus (Aug 16th).

Please come and enjoy the music on Aug 9th and learn about this year’s Annual Conference.

Bible Study – The Gospel of John

Posted by andrew on

This past spring, Pastor Dave offered a class on the overview of the gospels on Wednesday evenings during the season of Lent. As a spin-off of that class, he will be offering an ongoing Bible Study on the Gospel of John on the first and third Wednesday of every month from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

We live in an era where the people in the church are not as familiar with the content of the Bible as previous generations were. There is no way around this. If we want to know the content of the Bible, we have to read and study it on a regular basis. Engaging in a Bible Study on one gospel on two evenings a month will not make us proficient in the Bible as a whole, but it is a start.

The Bible Study will begin in September. Due to scheduling conflicts, the first class will begin on the third Wednesday, September 16 and then continue on the first Wednesday in October, October 7 and so forth. If you plan to attend please let Pastor Dave know and start reading the Gospel of John.
