Silent Auction

September 15, 2024 - September 22, 2024 | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Karlton Smith was a lifelong member of Green Tree. One of his talents was painting (he was
also known for his shoo-fly pies). Karlton’s family has given Green Tree some of his artwork. One
of the paintings was donated to the Disaster Relief Auction. The Witness Commission is holding
a Silent Auction fundraiser over 2 Sundays in September to give everyone an opportunity to own
one (or more!) of Karlton’s paintings if they would like. The proceeds of the Silent Auction will
go to Artwell in Philadelphia (theartwell.org). From their website: “ArtWell was founded in 2000
to respond to the chronic community violence in Philadelphia by introducing a preventive,
educational, arts-oriented approach to reach underserved communities and youth facing
discrimination, poverty, violence, and the everyday challenges of growing up. Their mission is to
support young people and their communities through multidisciplinary arts expression, education,
and creative reflection to celebrate their strengths, thrive while facing complex challenges, and
awaken their dreams.”

There is a wide variety of artwork to choose from – some pieces are framed, some canvases
are unframed, and there small (4” X 6”) paintings too. The Silent Auction will take place after
Worship on September 15th and 22nd. On September 15, the paintings will be displayed in the
Fellowship Hall. On September 22, the paintings will be set up in the MPR. The minimum bid for
each painting will be listed on the bid sheet. Everyone who wants to bid will get a bidding
number. The winning bidders will be contacted by phone after the Auction closes. Cash or checks
(made out to Green Tree – with Karlton on the memo line). The paintings will be available for pick
up on Sunday, September 29 after worship (or at another arranged time).

We hope to see you at the Silent Auction – winning one (or more!) of Karlton’s paintings
and raising funds for a good cause.
