On Sunday, May 1st, the Trustees of the Endowment Fund hosted a presentation by Steve Mason dealing with wills and estate planning.
Approximately 20 people attended this very informative session. Steve, the Director of Brethren Foundation at Church of the Brethren Benefit Trust, provided an overview that included the making of a legal will, the repercussions of dying intestate (without a will), the probate process in Pennsylvania, the setting up of trusts, and the importance of an attorney who specializes in this field.
The purpose of the presentation was that all the participants would review options when considering what to do with everything that has been accumulated over a lifetime. Steve stressed the importance of discussing with significant others one’s financial priorities, securing an advisor, making a plan, updating beneficiaries, and addressing charitable interests.
The Trustees of the Endowment Fund are considering having a local attorney come to the church to address interested parties who have more specialized questions or concerns about wills and estate planning. Details will appear in the Bulletin when arrangements have been made.
