Youth Update – August 2012

Final tests are done, yearbooks have been signed, and our seniors have graduated: school is out! All of the youth are super excited for summer break, and they have a lot planned for this summer, including family vacations and trips to Camp Swatara.
In the middle of June, the Jr. High went out on a miniature golfing expedition in Reading. Not to be outdone, the Sr. High will be taking a trip out to Lansdale to go miniature golfing at the end of the month.
Now, the two groups are really looking forward to our work camp trips, which are just around the corner. The Sr. High will be leaving for Washington D.C. on July 11th and are extremely excited! Our attendees this year are Adeline Bova, Dallas Smith, Marissa Yeager, David Coffman, Andy Simon, Joe Bova, Kim Lantzy, and Andy Hallman. We will be joining youth from the Indian Creek Church of the Brethren as well as youth from an Arizona church who a few of us met on our work camp in Brooklyn last year! We are looking forward to our work, which may include working at a soup kitchen, playing with kids, or working in a homeless shelter.
The Jr. High will be leaving for Roanoke, Virginia on July 25th. Those attending this work camp are Sarah Coffman, Emma Smith, and Magnus Skidmore. Joining them will be some youth from the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, as well as some youth from Virginia. They’ll be working with Roanoke Rescue Mission, which is a Christian outreach agency that provides food, shelter, and services to the homeless and the displaced.
We are so excited about these two trips, and we hope to come back with so many stories and experiences to share with the rest of the congregation.
